Pixel

·         Pixel or picture element is the smallest form of information in digital imaging. A pixel is usually represented by a square or a rectangle in a grid and is part of larger picture. The tiny pixels that make up an individual image are projected onto a display screen as illuminated dots. From a distance they appear as a continuous image. The more pixels in a picture usually mean a better representation of the picture.

·         It is important because pixels make up the entire digital imaging world. Adjusting the pattern of pixels of a given image can create a better representation of the image. Pixels are also used in computer display screens. For example, a resolution of 640x480 has 640 pixels horizontally and 480 vertically.

·         Most computer users should have some knowledge of pixels because they should be able to adjust the resolution of their computer to their preferences. It is also helpful to know the pixel amount of pictures when uploading pictures to web sites, such as Facebook, because sometimes pictures contain too little or too many pixels.

·         Pixels are important to digital art professionals, printer manufacturers, web designers, animators, and basically anyone who works with digital images on a professional level. It is important for them to know about pixels because their digital images cannot be made clear and accurate without accurate knowledge about pixels.

10) Braille Printer (Output)

*A braille printer, or embosser, is a printer that prints out text as braille, or raised bumps and grooves.  Usually, the paper used in these printers is thicker as well as more expensive than normal computer paper.

*Braille printers are important because they allow people who are blind to still be able to read text that comes out of a computer.

*Braille printers are very important to blind people who would like to print forms from a computer and read them later, as well as for businesses that produce braille books, magazines, and other publications.

*People who should know about braille printers include blind people who use and print from a computer, libraries and schools that would like to accommodate people with vision impairments via braille printers, and companies that produce braille publications.

A screen reader is a software tool used by those who are visually impaired, mentally handicapped or those with learning disabilities.  Screen readers attempt to take what is on the screen and translate it to something the individual can understand such as sound.  This instrument recites and describes the content of the page using a synthesized voice. This tool is important because it enables those who cannot see or understand what they are seeing to use computers.  It is a way of increasing just how widespread computer technology has become.  Screen readers are important to those who need to use them, for whatever reason that might be and their families and friends.  People with visual disabilities should be aware of screen readers in order to make their lives easier and seemingly normal when it comes to technology.  Also, those individuals who develop computer programs and design website pages should be aware of this tool.  By making small additions to their pages and programs, such as the addition of alternate text, they can ensure that their finished product can be understood and enjoyed by as many people as possible.  Alternate text is a way of making a statement to describe the picture on the screen heard by the person at the computer. This is important to the visually impaired as well as site creators because a company can get sued for not accommodating their possible visually impaired customers.
